Diesel Generator for Hotel Backup Power — Sheraton Davao
Davao, the Philippines — 2×1000kW CCEC Cummins Paralleled
Project Overview
Sheraton Davao operates a five-star, full-service hotel where uninterrupted power is essential for guest comfort, safety systems, and revenue protection. A grid outage that darkens lifts, kitchens, and HVAC not only disrupts guests but also damages the property's reputation. The hotel required a silent, automatic diesel generator for hotel standby, compliant with international codes (IEEE, ANSI, NEMA), that could carry the entire critical load the moment the mains failed.
H&C supplied two 1,000 kW CCEC Cummins standby generators housed in sound-attenuated, weatherproof canopies to keep noise unobtrusive for guests and neighbouring premises. The units start automatically on mains failure, transfer load through an ATS, and power lighting, elevators, refrigeration, and the fire-safety systems until utility power returns.
Challenge & Requirements
The project required a low-noise diesel generator for hotel use that could be installed close to the building without disturbing guests, withstand Davao's hot, humid climate, and provide automatic operation with no manual intervention. As a five-star property, the system also had to comply with strict international codes — IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA.

Solution & Implementation
H&C selected two CCEC (Chongqing Cummins) engines matched to Stamford alternators for 2,000 kW standby output, integrated with Deep Sea DSE7320 controllers for fully automatic start and load transfer. The weatherproof canopies were engineered with sound-attenuating panels to keep operation quiet while remaining serviceable in place.
The generator was assembled and full-load tested at the H&C factory, including a 100% load bank run and automatic-transfer simulation. Rigorous Factory (FAT) and Site (SAT) acceptance testing validated full system compatibility, while a high-temperature cooling package maintained rated output in the hot, humid climate and the base tank was sized to support extended operation during prolonged outages.
H&C took single-source M&E turnkey responsibility for both the mechanical and electrical systems, managing export packing, shipping to the Philippines, and on-site commissioning with the hotel's engineering team. Installation included the automatic transfer switch, cable termination, and final integration testing with the hotel's electrical panel before rapid on-site commissioning and operator handover.

Project Results
The diesel generator for hotel standby has operated reliably through multiple grid outages and scheduled tests since commissioning, keeping guest services, kitchens, and safety systems running without interruption.
The hotel reported high satisfaction with the low noise levels and the automatic, hands-free operation of the system, and has engaged H&C for ongoing service support.
