South Africa Redstone 100MW CSP — Diesel Backup
Redstone, Northern Cape, South Africa — 100 MW Tower CSP with Diesel Backup
Project Overview
The Redstone 100 MW tower CSP plant in South Africa's Northern Cape uses concentrated solar power with molten-salt thermal storage to generate electricity. Like all power plants, it requires diesel generator backup to restart auxiliaries and provide black start support after a grid outage, ensuring the solar field and turbine systems can be safely re-energised.
H&C supplied the plant's black start diesel generator capability, supporting the CSP facility's ability to return to service after a shutdown. The units are integrated with the plant control system and were commissioned alongside the main plant, reinforcing H&C's role in renewable-plus-diesel hybrid power projects.
