Diesel Generator for Telecom Towers — Network Backup Power
Indonesia — 600 kW Standby
Project Overview
Telecom operators depend on continuous power at switch centres and base stations to keep voice and data services running. Even a short outage can drop thousands of calls and disconnect mobile data, damaging both service quality and subscriber trust. This operator required a diesel generator for telecom towers and network facilities that would start automatically and carry critical switching and transmission loads through grid failures.
H&C supplied a 600 kW standby generator built around a Perkins 2806A engine and Stamford alternator, in a sound-attenuated, weatherproof canopy. The system is configured for automatic start and transfer and supports remote monitoring so the operator's network operations centre can track status and run scheduled tests without sending a technician to site.
Challenge & Requirements
The diesel generator for telecom towers had to combine very high starting reliability with low noise for urban sites, stable output under the switching load, and remote monitoring over standard protocols. The operator also required a compact, weatherproof package suitable for rooftop or compound installation and low maintenance burden across a distributed network.

Solution & Implementation
H&C configured a Perkins 2806A-E18TAG3 engine matched to a Stamford HCI444E alternator for 600 kW standby output, controlled by a Deep Sea DSE7320 with remote monitoring over Modbus and ethernet. The controller enables automatic start, transfer, and scheduled exercise runs from the network operations centre.
The generator was assembled and full-load tested at the H&C factory, including a 100% load bank run and automatic-transfer simulation. The sound-attenuated canopy keeps noise within urban limits, and the unit is finished with a weatherproof coating for tropical conditions.
H&C handled export packing, shipping, and on-site commissioning, integrating the generator with the operator's existing DC plant and transfer switchgear. Operator training and a complete documentation and spares package were delivered at handover.

Project Results
The diesel generator for telecom towers has provided dependable backup through repeated grid outages, keeping the operator's switching and transmission sites online with no dropped service during backup transitions.
The operator cited the system's remote monitoring and low maintenance burden as key benefits and has returned to H&C for additional units across its network.
